Group Rides in San Diego

San Diego County Regular Group Rides:

This is not all the group rides out there in San Diego County, of course, but the ones I know of who are still riding regularly. There are other clubs that had gone quiet since the pandemic started in 2020 and haven't quite updated much since. There are also shop rides out of various bike shops around town that advertise more via words of mouth than online presence. Do ask your local bike shops if there is a group ride that fit your riding needs.

NORTH COUNTY
Morning rides on Saturdays (Roadie groups are more sportive, Clippers group is a no-drop intermediate pace ride, and Cruisers group is beginners friendly no-drop) and Sundays (no drop but routes vary from short coffee ride stuff to long mountainous stuff). Non-members welcome but must sign liability waiver prior to joining rides.
Rides every Saturday morning at 8am from Buchanon Park in the eastern part of Oceanside (San Luis Rey River Trail at College Ave). Non-members welcome but must sign waiver prior to joining rides. Limit to road bikes and class 1 E-bikes. No tri-bikes allowed. This club is affiliated with the League of American Bicyclists. Visit their website and read their ride safety protocol/code of conduct before joining.
Mellow no-drop road riding group. Riding mostly north of Solana Beach and west of I-15. Beginners and intermediate riders riding for fitness (non-racing).
The Gurus currently are based at Revolution Bike Shop in Solana Beach (on Coast Hwy between Dahlia and Lomas Santa Fe). The World Famous Ride (Swami's Loop to Escondido via Elfin Forest & Del Dios Hwy) is on Saturday mornings. The A & B groups (fast competitive groups) pretty much stick to the Swami's Loop. C & D groups are non-racing and have more diverse routes. There are other rides through out the week. Check their website for ride calendar. At this time this group is for intermediate riders or stronger (there is no 'no drop' ride).
Ride out of Velotown Bike Shop on Coast Hwy just north of Encinitas Blvd in Leucadia. Sportive and pretty fast pace, tho with different rides (road and gravel) to choose from.
This is a faster pace group that is involved in racing. They ride every Saturday morning at 8am from Westfield Mall off Via Rancho Pkwy in Escondido. There's a 'kinder, genler, B group 'KGB'' that starts at 7:45am doing the same route at less taxing pace. Non-members can join for a trial ride (and then decide if you want to join the group or not).
Gravel riding group (intermediate and up) riding every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month out of Lost Abbey Confessional (brewery) in Cardiff.

CENTRAL San Diego
Intermediate and up levels group rides through out the week. Anything from track racing (every first Tuesday of the month from April thru September) to bike packing/touring to long road rides. Adams Ave Bikes is on Adams Ave at Hamilton Dr in University Heights.
Offers group rides from their Old Town shop (west side of San Diego Ave at Noell) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Intermediate level and up. They regroup, but not a 'no drop' ride. Tuesday and Thursday mornings are hill work out ride to Cabrillo National Park with optional hill repeat on Tidepool Hill. Saturday rides are more varied. There are also occasional mountain bike rides.
The biggest group rides in the county. Saturday ride starts from UC Cyclery in UTC area and has many different groups based on riding ability/speed from beginners to racers. Also has a Sunday ride at D1 group pace with more varied route.
Saturday morning super mellow (usually around 10 miles or less) ride starts at Uptown Bicycles on Adams Avenue at Hawley in Normal Heights
Sunday morning is the more challenging ride (still no racing) that starts at Uptown Bicycles and finishes at Rouleur Brewing in North Park
Urban mellow riding (usually in casual clothing rather than spandex). Taco Tuesdays and other fun social rides.
Intermediate level rides (you should be able to ride 30 miles in 3 hrs) on Sunday mornings. Non-members must sign waiver prior to joining a ride. They ride all over the county.
Mountain biking, of course! Offers Tuesday night beginners ride in Balboa Park (Morley Field), and other rides for different skill levels on weekends all over the county. There are also volunteer opportunities posted to help build and/or maintain trails all around the county.
All women super friendly mountain biking group (gravel grinders also welcome on green rides). Offers guided rides for beginners and intermediate riders, along with pick up ride opportunities among members (there is no cost to join the group). Rides mostly at PQ, Hodges, Daly Ranch, and sometimes venturing elsewhere.
E-bikes, of course. I'm afraid I don't know much about them as I don't have an e-bike. If you have ridden with the group, please feel free to share your experience!
The SDCBC is a local cycling advocacy group. They offers fantastic cycling safety classes along with no-drop 'party-pace' group rides usually in street clothes rather than spandex, starting from their HQ on K and 15th in East Village (just east of Downtown San Diego).

EAST COUNTY
Very community-minded group that accommodates all ride levels (and even does trash pick up on a local road twice a month). Ride meetup at the PetCo parking lot on Jamacha Rd at Willow Glen Dr in Rancho San Diego on Saturday mornings (8am).

SOUTH BAY
Road riding group based in Chula Vista. They do Hoppy Hour ride on Wednesday nights, roadie century (metric or full) rides on the last Saturday of the month, and a no-drop coffee ride on the last Sunday of the month.
Intermediate & advanced road rides in Chula Vista area. They do evening ride on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Otay Ranch area.
